CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Tuesday 10 Aug for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 4,643,450. This is an overall increase of 15,680 against the figure released on Monday – the lowest overall increase for a month – and of which 8,001 have been registered in the past 24 hours.

Monday had seen an overall increase of 39,638 over Friday, of which 3,987 were registered in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.

The overall incidence rate has fallen by 20 points since yesterday to 528.38 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Monday it was 549.06 and Friday 591.14.

The incidence for each age group per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days is as follows:

  • Under 11 – 521 (yesterday was 535)
  • Aged 12-19 – 1,154 (1,203)
  • Aged 20-29 – 1,130 (1,193)
  • Aged 30-39 – 589 (617)
  • Aged 40-49 – 368 (381)
  • Aged 50-59 – 321 (330)
  • Agend 60-69 – 283 (292)
  • Aged 70-79 – 220 (222)
  • Over 80 – 292 (293)

There have now been 250,722 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 4,643,450. The figure for the past 7 days is 102,069

There are currently 10,001 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain (10,411 yesterday), of which 1,987 are in intensive care (2,031). This represents 21.54% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain (21.98%). It remains highest at 48.41% in Catalonia (49%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Tuesday 10 Aug is 82,227 – an increase of 102 since Monday.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 8,001 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Tuesday 10 Aug, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 2,131 in Madrid (last 24 hour increase was 472)
  • 1,704 in Catalonia (530)
  • 602 in the Basque Country (541)
  • 561 in Castilla y León (364)
  • 435 in Galicia (318)
  • 372 in the Canary Islands (326)
  • 347 in Aragón (197)
  • 328 in Extremadura (191)
  • 265 in Murcia (104)
  • 257 in Andalusia (198)
  • 203 in Cantabria (237)
  • 192 in Navarra (185)
  • 172 in the Valencia Region (28)
  • 151 in the Balearic Islands (70)
  • 149 in Asturias (101)
  • 79 in La Rioja (69)
  • 11 in Castilla La Mancha (15) 
  • 24 in Ceuta (29)
  • 18 in Melilla (12)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 10 Aug) show that Spain has administered 59,429,601 jabs of Covid-19 vaccines. 33,575,961 people have now received at least one jab, representing 70.8% of the total population. 28,768,777 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 60.6% of the total population.
