CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Tuesday 20 July for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 4,189,136. This is an overall increase of 27,286 against the figure released on Monday, of which 16,418 have occurred in the past 24 hours

Monday had seen an overall increase of 61,628 over Friday, of which 8,105 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.

The overall incidence rate has jumped another 23 points to 622.41 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Monday it was 599.69 and Friday 537.34. The incidence rate is at its highest in Catalonia (1,240), Castilla y León (910), Navarra (905) and Aragón (793).

The incidence for each age group per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days is as follows:

  • Under 11 – 382 (yesterday 359)
  • Aged 12-19 – 1,525 (1,488)
  • Aged 20-29 – 1,838 (1,794) 
  • Aged 30-39 – 833 (799)
  • Aged 40-49 – 399 (383)
  • Aged 50-59 – 249 (236)
  • Agend 60-69 – 245 (232)
  • Aged 70-79 – 112 (103)
  • Over 80 – 148 (133)

There have now been 295,337 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 4,189,136. The figure for the past 7 days is 155,399

There are currently 6,856 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain (6,482 yesterday), of which 1,116 are in intensive care (1,039 yesterday). This represents 12.23% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain (11.42% yesterday). It is now over 35% in Catalonia. 

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Tuesday 20 July is 81,148 – an increase of 29 since Monday.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 16,418 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Tuesday 20 July, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 5,534 in Catalonia – (last 24 hour increase was 2,204)
  • 3,382 in Madrid (969)
  • 1,341 in Castilla y León (739)
  • 1,079 in the Basque Country (900)
  • 773 in Aragón (558)
  • 720 in Galicia (433)
  • 581 in the Canary Islands (500)
  • 470 in Asturias (359)
  • 436 in Navarra (398)
  • 403 in Extremadura (204)
  • 367 in Andalusia (222)
  • 313 in the Valencia Region (36)
  • 304 in the Balearic Islands (144)
  • 300 in Cantabria (250)
  • 219 in Murcia (75)
  • 150 in La Rioja (84)
  • 17 in Castilla La Mancha (18) 
  • 11 in Ceuta (9)
  • 18 in Melilla (3)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 20 July) show that Spain has received 55,918,413 doses of Covid-19 vaccines and that 51,710,022 jabs have been administered. 29,697,691 people have now received at least one jab, representing 62.6% of the total population. 24,344,008 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 51.3% of the total population.
