CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures
The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Friday 23 July for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 4,280,429. This is an overall increase of 31,171 against the figure released on Thursday, of which 16,750 have occurred in the past 24 hours.
Thursday had seen an overall increase of 29,535 over Wednesday, of which 17,716 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.
The overall incidence rate has risen another 18 points to 677.67 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Thursday it was 659.08 and Wednesday 644,50. The incidence rate is at its highest in Catalonia (1,184), Castilla y León (890), Navarra (983) and Aragón (864).
The incidence for each age group per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days is as follows:
- Under 11 – 465 (yesterday 436)
- Aged 12-19 – 1,623 (1,586)
- Aged 20-29 – 1,883 (1,863)*
- Aged 30-39 – 891 (874)
- Aged 40-49 – 441 (430)
- Aged 50-59 – 296 (279)
- Agend 60-69 – 290 (276)
- Aged 70-79 – 147 (135)
- Over 80 – 201 (184)
*The incidence rate is still over 3,000 for the 20-29 age group in Navarra (3,654) and Castilla y León (3,005).
There have now been 321,558 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 4,280,429. The figure for the past 7 days is 160,430.
There are currently 7,955 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain (7,618 yesterday), of which 1,292 are in intensive care (1,240 yesterday). This represents 14.10% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain (13.52% yesterday). It is now over 40% in Catalonia.
The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Friday 23 July is 81,221 – an increase of 27 since Thursday.
Increase in infections per region
Of the 16,750 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Friday 23 July, the numbers per region are as follows:
- 3,862 in Madrid (last 24 hour increase was 3,935)
- 3,018 in Catalonia (4,275)
- 1,592 in the Basque Country (1,599)
- 1,346 in Castilla y León (1,494)
- 1,041 in Aragón (964)
- 962 in Galicia (1,078)
- 928 in the Canary Islands (845)
- 647 in Andalusia (519)
- 550 in Extremadura (473)
- 443 in Navarra (425)
- 435 in Murcia (339)
- 423 in Cantabria (285)
- 411 in Asturias (384)
- 406 in the Valencia Region (471)
- 365 in the Balearic Islands (386)
- 266 in La Rioja (144)
- 13 in Castilla La Mancha (74)
- 21 in Ceuta (15)
- 21 in Melilla (11)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain
Latest figures (up to 23 July) show that Spain has received 55,930,113 doses of Covid-19 vaccines and that 53,930,113 jabs have been administered. 30,500,003 people have now received at least one jab, representing 64.3% of the total population. 25,398,978 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 53.5% of the total population.
