CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures
The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Monday 19 July for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 4,161,850. This is an overall increase of 61,628 against the figure released on Friday, of which 8,105 have occurred in the past 24 hours.
Friday had seen an overall increase of 31,060 over Thursday, of which 16,667 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.
The overall incidence rate has jumped another 62 points to 599.69 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Friday it was 537.34 and Thursday 500.75. The incidence rate is at its highest in Catalonia (1,233), Castilla y León (896), Navarra (892) and Aragón (762).
The incidence for each age group per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days is as follows:
- Under 11 – 359 (Friday 187)
- Aged 12-19 – 1,488 (837)
- Aged 20-29 – 1,794 (996)
- Aged 30-39 – 799 (475)
- Aged 40-49 – 383 (224)
- Aged 50-59 – 236 (129)
- Agend 60-69 – 232 (145)
- Aged 70-79 – 103 (61)
- Over 80 – 133 (87)
There have now been 284,559 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 4,161,850. The figure for the past 7 days is 153,729.
There are currently 6,482 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain (5,056 on Friday), of which 1,039 are in intensive care (872 on Friday). This represents 11.42% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain (9.59% on Friday). It is now over 32% in Catalonia. Overall in Spain, hospitalisations have increased more than 65% in one week (3,892 people were in hospital last Monday 12 July).
The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Monday 19 July is 81,119 – an increase of 23 since Friday.
Increase in infections per region
Of the 8,105 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Monday 19 July, the numbers per region are as follows:
- 2,204 in Catalonia – (last 24 hour increase was 4,649)
- 969 in Madrid (3,078)
- 900 in the Basque Country (1,160)
- 739 in Castilla y León (1,665)
- 558 in Aragón (1,009)
- 500 in the Canary Islands (695)
- 433 in Galicia (832)
- 398 in Navarra (622)
- 359 in Asturias (538)
- 250 in Cantabria (300)
- 222 in Andalusia (608)
- 204 in Extremadura (401)
- 144 in the Balearic Islands (283)
- 84 in La Rioja (28)
- 75 in Murcia (278)
- 36 in the Valencia Region (467)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain
Latest figures (up to 19 July) show that Spain has received 53,907,858 doses of Covid-19 vaccines and that 51,229,989 jabs have been administered. 29,484,796 people have now received at least one jab, representing 62.1% of the total population. 24,041,017 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 50.7% of the total population.
