CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Thursday 15 July for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 4,069,162. This is an overall increase of 27,858 against the figure released on Wednesday, of which 15,858 have occurred in the past 24 hours

Wednesday had seen an overall increase of 26,390 over Tuesday, of which 15,494 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.

The overall incidence rate has jumped another 31 points to 500.75 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days over 500 again for the first time since early February. On Wednesday it was 469.50 and Tuesday 436.75. The incidence rate is at its highest in Catalonia (1,107), Castilla y León (825) and Navarra (779).

The incidence for each age group per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days is as follows:

  • Under 11 – 260.87 (yesterday 236)
  • Aged 12-19 – 1,311.73 (1,252)
  • Aged 20-29 – 1,581.39 (1,508) *
  • Aged 30-39 – 658.96 (613)
  • Aged 40-49 – 311.38 (288)
  • Aged 50-59 – 183.03 (166)
  • Agend 60-69 – 172.83 (154)
  • Aged 70-79 – 71.46 (63)
  • Over 80 – 86.84 (77)

*In Catalonia the incidence rate for the 20-29 age group is 3,374 and in Castilla y León it is 3,643 – meaning that over 1 in 30 people in that age bracket in both regions have contracted Covid within the past 14 days.

There have now been 237,609 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 4,069,162. The figure for the past 7 days is 133,853

There are currently 4,705 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain (4,467 yesterday), of which 838 are in intensive care (798 yesterday). This represents 9.18% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain (8.75% yesterday). It is over 24% in Catalonia.

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Thursday 15 July is 81,084 – an increase of 41 since Wednesday.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 15,858 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Thursday 15 July, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 4,204 in Catalonia – (last 24 hour increase was 4,768)
  • 3,090 in Madrid (2,797)
  • 1,665 in Castilla y León (1,823)
  • 1,046 in Aragón (955)
  • 1,044 in the Basque Country (856)
  • 780 in Galicia (555)
  • 655 in the Canary Islands (589)
  • 603 in Navarra (528)
  • 550 in Andalusia (522)
  • 541 in Asturias (565)
  • 469 in the Valencia Region (419)
  • 440 in Extremadura (370)
  • 343 in Cantabria (224)
  • 327 in Murcia (186)
  • 44 in Castilla La Mancha (22) 
  • 31 in La Rioja (91)
  • in the Balearic Islands (196) – no update today
  • 15 in Ceuta (6)
  • 11 in Melilla (15)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 15 July) show that Spain has received 53,887,158 doses of Covid-19 vaccines and that 49,585,197 jabs have been administered. 28,759,879 people have now received at least one jab, representing 60.6% of the total population. 22,949,155 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 48.4% of the total population.
