CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Monday 10 May for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 3,581,392. This is an overall increase of 13,984 against the figure released on Friday, and of which 1,349 have occurred in the past 24 hours.

Friday had seen an overall increase of 8,186 cases over Thursday, of which 3,933 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during this third wave of the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered. 

The overall incidence rate has dropped another ten points to 188.97 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Friday it was 198.60 and Thursday 202.20. Last Monday it was 223.75. It now remains above the ‘extreme risk’ level in four regions: the Basque Country (401), Madrid (302), Navarra (269) and Aragón (290). It is under 100 in seven regions: Valencia (35), the Balearic Islands (58), Murcia (67), the Canary Islands (85), Extremadura (90), Galicia (93) and Asturias (95).

There have now been 89,666 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 3,581,392. The figure for the past 7 days is 38,140

There are currently 8,531 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain, of which 2,134 are in intensive care. This represents 21.43% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain. 

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths on Monday 10 May is now 78,895 – an increase of 103 since Friday.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 1,349 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Monday 10 May, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 344 in the Basque Country (last 24 hour increase was 591)
  • 226 in Madrid (1,506)
  • 116 in Castilla y León (286)
  • 95 in Galicia (101)
  • 84 in Aragón (260)
  • 74 in the Canary Islands (117)
  • 67 in Andalusia (267)
  • 65 in Catalonia (183)
  • 60 in Navarra (125)
  • 40 in the Valencia Region (89)
  • 37 in Asturias (66)
  • 31 in La Rioja (40)
  • 30 in Cantabria (71)
  • 28 in Extremadura (61)
  • 18 in Castilla La Mancha (49)
  • 14 in Murcia (50) 
  • 12 in the Balearic Islands (33)
  • 0 in Ceuta (1)
  • in Melilla (37)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 10 May) show that Spain has received 21,100,665 doses of Covid-19 vaccines and that 19,830,624 jabs have been administered. 13,797,431 people have now received at least one jab, representing 29.1% of the population. 6,221,476 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 13.1% of the population.
