Sitges plans to run a trial opening of five late-night music bars

A total of five music bars in Sitges – located on Carrer Primer de Maig – are being considered as part of an unprecedented test in Europe during the on-going Covid-19 pandemic.

The establishments, which hold a capacity of up to 440 people, are planned to open beyond the hours permitted by the nationwide curfew – and the nightlife will be controlled following strict sanitary and epidemiological protocols.

Details of the protocols have been completed and involve the input of the Association of Bars Carrer del Pecat, the Hospitality Association, the Town Council, the Catalan Federation of Nightlife Venues (FECALON), and representatives of micro, small and medium-sized companies in Catalonia (PIMEC).

However, approval from the Catalan Department of Health is needed before the trial gets the greenlight.

Last Saturday, a similar test took place with the Love of Lesbian concert at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona – in which 5,000 people attended. The initiative, which inspired the idea to open a handful of late-night bars in Sitges, was the result of over two months of work and planning undertaken by promoters.

The scheduled date for the trial opening in Sitges has not been set in stone – as confirmation from the Department of Health is still pending – but, it is believed that it may happen on Saturday 10 April or 17 April.
