Bilbao classical music festival returns

Over 1,500 musicians will take part in this year’s ‘Musika : Música‘ festival in Bilbao, which takes place from 28 February to 3 March.

Organised by the Fundación Bilbao 700, the aim of the event is to make classical music more accessible to local audiences and each year offers an original programme featuring the work of composers such as Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, Vivaldi, Schubert and Chopin, among others.

This year’s festival celebrates music from and about New York and London.

This year’s festival takes the cities of London and New York as inspiration, looking to these two places that are home to thriving and innovative musical communities.

The inaugural concert features Russian-American pianist Olga Kern, conductor Stefan Asbury and the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra and Choir performing works by George Gershwin and Edward Elgar, as well as William Walton‘s ‘In honour of the city of London’.
