Born in Menorca in 1987, the versatile pianist, improviser and composer Marco Mezquida is performing a concert in Sitges on Wednesday 10 July as part of the ‘Sitgestiu’ festival.
The Sitges Museums’ summer festival, known as ‘Sitgestiu’, offers a total of 37 very diverse cultural activities for all tastes during the months of July and August, and with many events also in English.
Described as ‘the embodiment of musical passion’, Mezquida is considered one of the most lively figures on the Spanish jazz and clasical piano scene, with terms like ‘wunderkind’, ‘piano magician’ and ‘magnetic’ often used to describe the impressive range of his work.
Mezquida has won several awards, and has already enchanted the world’s great jazz festivals and important concert halls such as the Cologne Philharmonic, the Palau de la Música in Barcelona, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Parco della Musica in Rome and Teatro Café des Arts in Paris, among many more.
After graduating from the ESMUC in Barcelona in 2009, he has since recorded 20 albums leading his own projects, plus 40 more as part of various projects with the best musicians in the country.
He presents himself and his music on stage full of musical joy, peppered with musical experiments, such as the inclusion of the sound of directly struck piano strings. His praised solo piano concerts have often been described as a ‘one-man orchestra’. With his spectacular mixture of melodious sounds, vitality, tangos, flamencos and buleras, Marco Mezquida succeeds in making every moment as intense and fresh as possible.
Marco Nezquida performs on Wednesday 10 July at the Racó de la Calma in Sitges. The performance lasts for 90 minutes and tickets are €12. Click here for tickets.
