Sitges to carry out mass testing to stop the transmission of Covid-19

This Wednesday 7 July, the Catalan government’s health department will carry out mass testing in Sitges with the aim of detecting asymptomatic cases and cutting the transmission of Covid-19, after the recent sharp increase of cases in the town.

Participation in this screening is voluntary and free, will not require an appointment and is aimed mainly at those aged under 30. The tests will be carried out non-stop in a CatSalut Module, located next to the CAP (Sitges Primary Health Care Centre), from 9am to 8pm. This preventive activity will be managed by the Sitges primary care team and you only need to take along your health card.

This initiative to stop the transmission of Covid is being promoted by the Catalan Health Service and the South Metropolitan Primary Care Agency, in collaboration with Sitges Town Council. It comes as Sitges has the largest evolution of the virus among all municipalities in Catalonia of more than 10,000 inhabitants, and which has coincided with the end of the school year, the re-opening of nightlife and the celebrations of Sant Joan and Sant Pere.

Once the tests have been done, the results will be sent by SMS and can also be consulted between 48 and 72 hours later on the personal online site of La Meva Salut. If the tests are positive, the Epidemiological Surveillance Service will contact those affected to carry out a study of direct contact tracing and indicate the necessary isolation. The health department is expected to officially announce this in the next few hours.
