Monument to G.K.Chesterton shines once again on the Paseo de la Ribera

The monument commemorating the English writer and philosopher G.K.Chesterton is once again shining on the Paseo de la Ribera in Sitges, after being restored and cleaned.

The restoration and conservation process was entrusted to the Consorci del Patrimoni de Sitges, which maintain the town’s sculptures and has more actions planned for 2024

The work consists, on the front, of a bronze plaque with Chesterton’s portrait, which had been damaged by the salt from the sea. The restoration consisted of removing the salt and then cleaning the bronze via mechanical and chemical processes. Afterwards, the oxide residues were removed, two layers of direct protection were applied as preventive conservation, and a final layer of water repellent was also applied to prevent water from being retained in the monolith.

The monument to G.K.Chesterton was created in 1976, in honour of the writer, who spent long stays in the years 1926, 1928 and 1935 at the Hotel Subur, one of the most luxurious in Catalonia at that time age.
