Sitges Council’s campaign to restablish the space on public roads to pre-Covid

Sitges Town Council of Sitges is carrying out a campaign to restablish and reorganise the space on public roads to pre-pandemic times.

The aim is for each venue and establishment to adapt to the space it was originally authorised to occupy, so an initial ‘informative action’ is planned to remind each of premises of the regulations in force. Subsequently, in the event of non-compliance, a sanctioning process will commence.

The operation to adjust the terrace space of venues to current regulations is motivated by the need to return to the space occupied before the Covid-19 health crisis.

During the pandemic, when bars and restaurants were able to re-open, the local council allowed a wider occupation than usual for terrace space, with the aim of having wider social distancing between customers and avoiding the transmission of the disease.

Now that the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the Covid-19 crisis as over, the council has reminded businesses that they must return to occupy the spaces they were allowed before the exceptional measures granted.

At the moment, the council’s ‘activities inspection service’ has already ordered around 30 establishments to comply with the spaces and materials allowed on public roads.
