Volunteer firefighters of Sitges call for improvements in work and facilities

The Sitges Volunteer Fire Brigade face the summer campaign of being on high alert against the risk of forest fires, but also on two other important fronts.

On the one hand, there is a claim for labour improvements for the fire brigade in general, and on the other, the reform and expansion of the Sitges Fire Station, something that has been requested for some 14 years.

With the labour demands, the volunteer firefighters are asking to be recognised as staff of the Generalitat, the Catalan government, since they consider that they are carrying out a public duty. Once all the steps have been taken, they would be appointed as ‘Firemen of the Generalitat de Catalunya’, on a voluntary basis.

The Sitges volunteer firefighters are also waiting for the fire station building to be reformed and expanded. The aim of the reform is to adapt the facilities to current regulations.
