Local authorities are preparing for a tough summer, due to risk of forest fires

Sitges and Ribes are preparing for one of the most complicated summers ahead, in terms of the risk of forest fires.

The increase in temperatures and the scarce rainfall this year means that the forest areas are far too dry and with the risk of fire. And all this, during a period of severe drought in which water resources are limited compared to previous years.

Last summer, the Garraf suffered two fires in the municipal areas of Sant Pere de Ribes and Olivella, which burned around 30 hectares. This precedent, added to the restrictions on the use of water due to the low water reserves, means that the local authorities are preparing to take measures for what is expected to be a very difficult summer ahead.
