The double ‘bridge’ holiday of last week – that some refer to as an ‘aqueduct’ or ‘viaduct’ holiday – with two national holidays falling on Tuesday 6th and Thursday 8th December, meant that the Sitges hospitality sector enjoyed an influx of visitors this year.
Restaurants and hotels reported a high turnover of clients, but this was not the case for shops and nightlife venues in general.
The organisation of company events and conventions meant that November had already been a good month in terms of employment for the hospitality sector, compared to previous years. During last week’s ‘bridge’ holiday, however, the town’s restaurants and hotels enjoyed an average 44% occupancy, according to data from the Sitges Hospitality Guild.
Although the weather was not ideal, and with tourism now moving towards mountain destinations with the start of the skiing season, Alejandro Erguía, manager of the Sitges Hospitality Guild, said that the local sector is ‘very satisfied with the numbers achieved and with how Sitges is extending’ more and more its tourist season.
