The Sunway Hotel is currently celebrating the ninth edition of the prestigious Chessable Sunway Sitges International Chess Festival, and which runs until Thursday 22 December.
With this ninth consecutive edition, the festival has for several years grown to be recognised as being the most distinguished chess festival across the Spanish state.
The tournament officially began on Monday 12 December, with around 400 registrations confirmed, all competing for more than €25,000 in prize money.
Francesc González, director of the tournament, said he was satisfied with the high level of entries. ‘The level will be very high. We will have 40 Grand Masters, 47 International Masters, 8 Female Grand Masters and 8 International Female Masters,’ he said.
