Around 80 children have not yet been assigned places for schools in Sitges

Demographic growth in Sitges is a reality. One of the examples is the increase in the number of children attending school in the town, and which this year is causing a problem. With less than a month and a half to go before the start of the new academic year, in Sitges there are 66 pupils who have still not had a place assigned – and also around 20 children still without a place for the kindergarten stage.

With these figures, the only solution involves forming new class groups – but at the moment there is no date for knowing in which schools these groups will be formed, and this is causing anxiety for a number of families and educational centres.

The increase in registrations since the pandemic, the development of La Plana area of Sitges, as well as the children who have arrived from Ukraine are some of the causes of the growth in enrolments in the town’s schools for the coming year.

The Sitges Town Council has said  that it had already asked the Catalan Government to anticipate this situation and, when the last school year finished, already with higher ratios of pupils, they had met with the Department of Education to find a temporary solution: to open three new groups in P4, 3rd Primary and 1st ESO, where more places remain to be assigned, and which will be added to the new group that will open in 1st Primary at Escola Agnès.
