Sitges ‘Run for Them’ charity race calls for mass participation

Following the announcement of the return of the Sitges race to raise awareness of PKU (Phenylketonuria) – a rare inherited disorder that causes an amino acid called phenylalanine to build up in the body – the organisers are calling to increase this year’s registrations for the 5 km solidarity race which is being held this Sunday 22 May, in a festive and family atmosphere, starting and finishing at the Terramar Gardens.

Alfonso Lügstenmann, the father of Candela, an eight-year-old girl from Sitges affected by the disease, hopes that the 7th edition of the Run for Them race (‘Corre per ells’ in Catalan) will follow the success of the solidarity dinner held on the 6 May at the PicNic restaurant. There was very strong demand for the dinner, but with a maximum of 127 reservations due to lack of capacity.

The event was attended by the mayor and three local government councillors. Attendees also enjoyed an intimate performance by renowned local singer Ramon Mirabet.

Alfonso and Charo want to thank the 127 people who made this dinner possible, and they have said that in this year’s race there will be raffles, gifts and even a surprise related to music.
