Sitges ‘Sin Street’ nightlife festival forced to change programme

‘Festa del Carrer del Pecat’ – a festival for the iconic ‘Sin Street’ in Sitges – is taking place from 28 April until Sunday 1 May, with the aim of rejuvenating nightlife in the town’s most famous street – but it was forced to change its programme at the last minute.

The nightlife sector first announced the festival at a recent review meeting held at New Ricky’s, with the aim of reflecting on the current situation and finding solutions to improve the offer of nightlife in Sitges – and in an effort to recover the style of nightlife that existed years ago in the town.

Although various current issues were discussed, the attendees stressed the importance of generating a working group between representatives of the sector and the town to ensure projects and actions that can improve nightlife.

One aspect discussed was to relaunch spaces in Sitges that have had a long history of social activity, such as the Carrer Primer de Maig (also referred to as Carrer del Pecat) – and often called ‘Sin Street’. With this in mind, the Festa del Carrer del Pecat was created.

The event runs until 1 May with the aim of attracting people back to the famous street. There is a stage on the terrace outside Tito’s, with the public being offered different performances, and with the overall intention that the audience will then end up spending time in the street’s music bars and other establishments.

Originally, DJs and other acts had been scheduled to run from 7pm until 11pm on Thursday-Sunday, and also with a Carrera de Tacons (high heels race) in the street on Sunday. However, due to non-compliance with some of the regulations needed to organise an event of this nature, it will now take place in a smaller format, without exceeding two hours each day or 70 decibels. As a result, the DJ performances, the heel race and a ‘Drac Queens’ show scheduled for Sunday have been cancelled.
