Sitges campaign to collect plastic caps to raise funds for treating glycogenosis

Around 20 shops, public premises and entities in Sitges have joined the campaign to collect plastic caps promoted by the Spanish Association of Glycogenosis Patients (AEEG).

The initiative, coordinated in Sitges by the council’s department of sustainability, aims to collect as many plastic caps as possible for recycling, which in turn will be exchanged for donations to the campaign to raise money to provide more and better medical support, with specialists with up-to-date knowledge, to children suffering from glycogenosis

All those who want to contribute will find containers especially located at the entrances of the Casa de la Vila, the Santiago Rusiñol Library, the Pins Vens Pavilion, the Blanca Subur sports ground, Sitges Rugby Club, the OAC, the Mercat (near the station), the municipal swimming pool, the Club Natació, the Miquel Utrillo School and some other commercial establishments.

Glycogenosis is a serious and rare disease that affects the liver and neuromuscular system. People who suffer from it are not able to release glucose from the liver and the treatment is only palliative, as no cure has been found yet.
