The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Wednesday 9 February for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 10,502,141. This is an increase of 62,839 against Tuesday’s figure. Tuesday had seen an increase of 43,831 over Monday.

The incidence rate across Spain has fallen 201 points to 1,692 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Tuesday it was 1,893 and Monday 1,997. It has fallen 872 points in one week, since last Wednesday’s figure of 2,564. See below for the incidence rate for each region.

The age group with the highest incidence rate is those aged 11 and under, at 2,795. It has fallen for all age groups since yesterday’s data. The incidence rates per age group are as follows:

  • Aged 11 and under – 2,795 (previously 3,081)
  • 12-19 years – 2,354 (2,488)
  • 20-29 years – 1,657 (1,733)
  • 30-39 years – 2,088 (2,280)
  • 40-49 years – 1,975 (2,134)
  • 50-59 years – 1,061 (1,121)
  • 60-69 years – 916 (953)
  • 70-79 years – 957 (1,000)
  • Aged 80 and over – 1,312 (1,362)

There have now been 802,004 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 10,50,141.. The figure for the past 7 days is 286,608

There are currently 14,440 people hospitalised for Covid-19 in Spain (previously 15,206), representing a 11.58% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (12.20%). 1,700 are in intensive care (1,768), representing 18.12% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across Spain (18.76%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Wednesday 9 Feb is now 95,213 – an increase of 282 since Tuesday. The figures last Wednesday had shown 224 deaths in a 24-hour period.

Incidence rate per region

The incidence rate has dropped in all regions again, compared to yesterday’s data. The current incidence rate for each region on Wednesday 9 Feb is as follows:

  • 2,599 in Murcia (previous incidence rate: 2,848)
  • 2,583 in Cantabria (2,789)
  • 2,571 in Catalonia (3,139)
  • 2,445 in the Valencia Region (2,691)
  • 2,372 in Aragón (2,576)
  • 2,281 in Galicia (2,393)
  • 2,209 in Navarra (2,432)
  • 2,051 in the Basque Country (2,215)
  • 1,870 in Extremadura (1,984)
  • 1,863 in Asturias (1,997)
  • 1,844 in Castilla y León (1,973)
  • 1,663 in the Balearic Islands (1,820)
  • 1,496 in La Rioja (1,562)
  • 1,325 in Castilla La Mancha (1,512)
  • 1,059 in Madrid (1,115)
  • 689 in the Canary Islands (746)
  • 567 in Andalusia (638)
  • 1,489 in Ceuta (1,669)
  • 1,307 in Melilla (1,471)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (with data collated up to Thursday 3 February) show that Spain has administered 90,715,373 jabs of the Covid vaccine. 38,316,906 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 80.8% of the total population. A further 22,274,057 ‘booster’ jabs have also been administered.
