The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Tuesday 8 February for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 10,439,302. This is an increase of 43,831 against Monday’s figure. Monday had seen an increase of 120,818 over Friday. Catalonia has not updated its figures today for ‘technical reasons’.

The incidence rate across Spain has fallen 104 points to 1,893 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Monday it was 1,997 and Friday 2,299. See below for the incidence rate for each region.

The age group with the highest incidence rate is those aged 11 and under, at 3,081. It has fallen for all age groups since yesterday’s data. The incidence rates per age group are as follows:

  • Aged 11 and under – 3,081 (previously 3,489)
  • 12-19 years – 2,488 (2,716)
  • 20-29 years – 1,733 (1,867)
  • 30-39 years – 2,280 (2,528)
  • 40-49 years – 2,134 (2,368)
  • 50-59 years – 1,121 (1,227)
  • 60-69 years – 953 (1,026)
  • 70-79 years – 1,000 (1,076)
  • Aged 80 and over – 1,362 (1,456)

There have now been 897,165 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 10,439,302. The figure for the past 7 days is 319,872

There are currently 15,206 people hospitalised for Covid-19 in Spain (previously 15,991), representing a 12.20% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (12.83%). 1,768 are in intensive care (1,838), representing 18.76% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across Spain (19.56%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Tuesday 8 Feb is now 94,931 – an increase of 361 since Monday. The figures last Tuesday had shown 408 deaths in a 24-hour period.

Incidence rate per region

The incidence rate has dropped in all regions again, compared to yesterday’s data. The current incidence rate for each region on Tuesday 8 Feb is as follows:

  • 3,139 in Catalonia (previous incidence rate: 3,139) – no update today
  • 2,848 in Murcia (3,089)
  • 2,789 in Cantabria (2,958)
  • 2,691 in the Valencia Region (3,015)
  • 2,576 in Aragón (2,757)
  • 2,432 in Navarra (2,614)
  • 2,393 in Galicia (2,476)
  • 2,215 in the Basque Country (2,363)
  • 1,997 in Asturias (2,150)
  • 1,984 in Extremadura (2,105)
  • 1,973 in Castilla y León (2,123)
  • 1,820 in the Balearic Islands (1,895)
  • 1,562 in La Rioja (1,647)
  • 1,512 in Castilla La Mancha (1,609)
  • 1,115 in Madrid (1,160)
  • 746 in the Canary Islands (798)
  • 638 in Andalusia (701)
  • 1,669 in Ceuta (1,890)
  • 1,471 in Melilla (1,594)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (with data collated up to Thursday 3 February) show that Spain has administered 90,715,373 jabs of the Covid vaccine. 38,316,906 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 80.8% of the total population. A further 22,274,057 ‘booster’ jabs have also been administered.
