Sitges Town Council completes Balmins path repairs to make it more accessible

Repairs to the Balmins pathway will finish this week, after the first phase was completed a year ago, which was the area surrounding the hermitage of San Sebastián and a first section of the path.

Solid gravel has been used again to give consistency to the path, since the effect of this material in the first phase was regarded as being very positive. The solid gravel creates a regular and accessible walkway, but without the use of concrete or other paving stones that would be less integrated into the Balmins landscape.

The councillor for urban services, Jaume Monasterio, said that ‘this second phase reaches the Balmins cove and we are continuing to use solid gravel because it is a mixture of gravel and resins that can be compacted very well and makes a more accessible path for the public’. He added: ‘Now we will have a much more pleasant and safer walk along this stretch of the coast.’

Once the path has been filled with the solid gravel, it avoids the streaks that rainwater used to make, and nor do pedestrians or bicycles leave any marks. Nevertheless, the material remains permeable and the path still has drains that will allow the rainwater to run off towards the rocks and the sea.
