The 5,000 square metres occupied by the old Agnès school in Sitges, in the Can Pei district, will become a green area.
The Sitges Town Council has approved the dismantling of the nine pre-fabricated modules – which for 16 years had formed the school – as a preliminary step to adapting the land.
The Catalan government, owner of the modules, will demolish them in the coming months and also dismantle the concrete structures. Once this action is completed, the local council, which owns the land, will start the project of replanting in the area previously occupied by the school.
The council aims to plant carob trees and adapt the whole space as a green area for public access. It has also said that it will respect the trees already in the area.
Since 2005, the modules housed the Agnès School in Sitges, which last September moved to the new Quint Mar building, built recently on the initiative of the Sitges Town Council and the Catalan government.
