CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Tuesday 5 Oct for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 4,967.200. This is an overall increase of 1,801 against the figure released on Monday, the lowest increase since July 2020, and of which 905 have been registered in the past 24 hours.

Monday had seen an overall increase of 4,271 over Friday, of which 385 were registered in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.

The overall incidence rate across Spain has fallen two points to 52.51 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Monday it was 54.12 and Friday 57.91. The region with the lowest incidence rate is Asturias at 15. It is at its highest in Cantabria at 84. See below for the incidence rate for each region.

There have now been 24,918 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 4,967,200. The figure for the past 7 days is 10,319

There are currently 2,509 people hospitalised for Covid-19 in Spain (previously 2,364), representing a 2.06% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (1.95%). 604 are in intensive are (637), representing 6.61% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across Spain (6.99%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Tuesday 5 Oct is now 86,621 – an increase of 94 since Monday.

Of the 905 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours (and current incidence rate) on Tuesday 5 Oct, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 228 in Madrid (current incidence rate: 55)
  • 226 in Catalonia (80)
  • 80 in the Basque Country (57)
  • 68 in Aragón (79)
  • 47 in the Canary Islands (48)
  • 40 in Murcia (61)
  • 37 in Castilla y León (34)
  • 33 in the Valencia Region (41)
  • 30 in Cantabria (84)
  • 25 in Andalusia (40)
  • 25 in the Balearic Islands (68)
  • 25 in Extremadura (50)
  • 12 in Galicia (21)
  • in Navarra (44)
  • 7 in La Rioja (41)
  • in Asturias (15)
  • 1 in Castilla La Mancha (51)
  • 3 in Ceuta (79)
  • 3 in Melilla (112)
