Coronavirus in Spain (4 Oct) – incidence rate now down to 54

CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Monday 4 Oct for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 4,965,399. This is an overall increase of 4,271 against the figure released on Friday, of which 385 have been registered in the past 24 hours.

Friday had seen an overall increase of 2,037 over Thursday, of which 877 were registered in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.

The overall incidence rate across Spain has fallen three points to 54.12 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Friday it was 57.91 and Thursday 59.02. The region with the lowest incidence rate is Asturias at 16. It is at its highest in Cantabria at 85. See below for the incidence rate for each region.

There have now been 25,682 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 4,965,399. The figure for the past 7 days is 11,286

There are currently 2,364 people hospitalised for Covid-19 in Spain (previously 2,403), representing a 1.95% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (1.99%). 637 are in intensive are (675), representing 6.99% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across Spain (7.45%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Monday 4 Oct is now 86,527 – an increase of 64 since Friday.

Of the 385 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours (and current incidence rate) on Monday 4 Oct, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 76 in Catalonia (current incidence rate: 81)
  • 62 in the Basque Country (58)
  • 46 in Madrid (56)
  • 42 in the Canary Islands (50)
  • 25 in Andalusia (42)
  • 24 in Cantabria (85)
  • 23 in Aragón (81)
  • 18 in Castilla y León (35)
  • 17 in Navarra (47)
  • 14 in Extremadura (51)
  • 11 in Murcia (64)
  • 7 in Galicia (22)
  • in Asturias (16)
  • 4 in the Valencia Region (42)
  • 4 in the Balearic Islands (67)
  • 3 in La Rioja (41)
  • 1 in Castilla La Mancha (54)
  • 0 in Ceuta (85)
  • 1 in Melilla (117)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (with data collated up to Sunday 3 October) show that Spain has administered 70,243,260 jabs of the Covid vaccine. 36,745,965 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 77.4% of the total population.
