CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Friday 1 Oct for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 4,961,128. This is an overall increase of 2,037 against the figure released on Thursday, of which 877 have been registered in the past 24 hours.

Thursday had seen an overall increase of 2,400 over Wednesday, of which 1,124 were registered in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.

The overall incidence rate across Spain has fallen two points to 57.91 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Thursday it was 59.02 and Wednesday 60.60. The region with the lowest incidence rate is Asturias at 16. It is at its highest in Cantabria at 93. See below for the incidence rate for each region.

There have now been 27,477 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 4,961,128. The figure for the past 7 days is 12,248

There are currently 2,403 people hospitalised for Covid-19 in Spain (previously 2,516), representing a 1.99% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (2.08%). 675 are in intensive are (703), representing 7.45% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across Spain (7.76%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Friday 1 Oct is now 86,463 – an increase of 48 since Thursday.

Of the 877 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours (and current incidence rate) on Friday 1 Oct, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 200 in Catalonia (current incidence rate: 80)
  • 101 in Aragón (82)
  • 96 in the Basque Country (66)
  • 57 in the Canary Islands (53)
  • 57 in Castilla y León (38)
  • 57 in Extremadura (53)
  • 56 in Andalusia (47)
  • 50 in Murcia (73)
  • 45 in Cantabria (93)
  • 45 in the Valencia Region (45)
  • 31 in Navarra (46)
  • 26 in Galicia (27)
  • 22 in the Balearic Islands (77)
  • 11 in Castilla La Mancha (57)
  • 8 in La Rioja (47)
  • in Asturias (16)
  • 0 in Madrid – no update today (64)
  • 3 in Ceuta (80)
  • 5 in Melilla (136)
