CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures
The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Wednesday 29 Sept for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 4,956,691. This is an overall increase of 2,761 against the figure released on Tuesday, of which 1,246 have been registered in the past 24 hours.
Tuesday had seen an overall increase of 2,290 over Monday, of which 1,249 were registered in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.
The overall incidence rate across Spain has fallen another 2 points to 60.60 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Tuesday it was 62.58 and Monday 65.42. The region with the lowest incidence rate is Asturias at 17. It is at its highest in Cantabria at 91. See below for the incidence rate for each region.
There have now been 28,753 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 4,956,691. The figure for the past 7 days is 12,802.
There are currently 2,616 people hospitalised for Covid-19 in Spain (previously 2,830), representing a 2.17% occupation of hospital beds across Spain. 731 are in intensive are (771), representing 8.07% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across Spain (8.47%).
The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Wednesday 29 Sept is now 86,397– an increase of 39 since Tuesday, and the lowest daily increase since the end of July.
Increase in infections per region & current incidence rate
Of the 1,246 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours (and current incidence rate) on Wednesday 29 Sept, the numbers per region are as follows:
- 288 in Madrid (current incidence rate: 66)
- 222 in Catalonia (79)
- 99 in Castilla y León (39)
- 86 in the Canary Islands (55)
- 85 in the Basque Country (73)
- 81 in Andalusia (51)
- 81 in Aragón (83)
- 54 in Extremadura (55)
- 50 in the Valencia Region (47)
- 49 in Cantabria (91)
- 34 in Murcia (81)
- 23 in Navarra (23)
- 22 in Castilla La Mancha (63)
- 19 in the Balearic Islands (83)
- 18 in Galicia (50)
- 15 in Asturias (17)
- 9 in La Rioja (46)
- 4 in Ceuta (102)
- 7 in Melilla (111)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain
Latest figures (with data collated up to Tuesday 28 September) show that Spain has administered 70,022,100 of the total population. 36,566,753 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 77.1% of the total population.
