CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Thursday 8 July for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 3,915,313. This is an overall increase of 17,317 against the figure released on Wednesday, of which 9,473 have occurred in the past 24 hours

Wednesday had seen an overall increase of 17,384 over Tuesday, of which 9,834 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.

The overall incidence rate has jumped another 25 points to 277.90 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days at the ‘extreme risk’ level again. On Wednesday it was 252.16 and Tuesday 225.35. The incidence rate is over 300 in 4 regions: Cantabria (394), Castilla y León (417), Catalonia (602) and Navarra (377).

The incidence for each age group per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days is as follows:

  • Under 11 – 123.32 (+10 points)
  • Aged 12-19 – 798.06 (+69)
  • Aged 20-29 – 911.23 (+97)
  • Aged 30-39 – 339,99 (+32)
  • Aged 40-49 – 172.89 (+11)
  • Aged 50-59 – 96.33 (+9)
  • Agend 60-69 – 83.61 (+8)
  • Aged 70-79 – 33.16 (+3)
  • Over 80 – 40.01 (+4)

There have now been 131,868 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 3,915,313. The figure for the past 7 days is 84,963

There are currently 2,829 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain (same figure as yesterday), of which 598 are in intensive care (also 598 yesterday). This represents 6.55% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain.

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Thursday 8 July is 80,997 – an increase of 28 since Wednesday.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 9,473 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Thursday 8 July, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 1,786 in Catalonia (last 24 hour increase was 3,063)
  • 1,755 in Castilla y León (1,384)
  • 1,417 in Madrid (1,344)
  • 726 in Aragón (648)
  • 553 in the Basque Country (517)
  • 506 in the Canary Islands (351)
  • 475 in Asturias (389)
  • 402 in Andalusia (394)
  • 391 in the Valencia Region (340)
  • 294 in Galicia (275)
  • 272 in Extremadura (234)
  • 256 in Navarra (332)
  • 217 in Cantabria (225)
  • 192 in Murcia (137)
  • 134 in the Balearic Islands (118)
  • 70 in La Rioja (61)
  • 19 in Castilla La Mancha (15) 
  • 5 in Ceuta (1)
  • in Melilla (6)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 8 July) show that Spain has received 51,314,332 doses of Covid-19 vaccines and that 45,924,484 jabs have been administered. 27,277,127 people have now received at least one jab, representing 57.5% of the population. 20,528,505 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 43.3% of the population.
