The younger generation of Sitges responded to the call for responsibility made on Wednesday by the local authorities, with 500 of them undergoing PCR tests to detect Covid infections among those aged 16 to 29, in a further effort to try and stop the chain of transmission.
The early hours of the morning, before the start of the working day, and the last hour of the evening were the busiest. In total, 10% of those aged between 16 and 29 living in the municipality turned up.
The reasons given for taking the PCR tests were various: in order to obtain the Covid passport for easier travelling in the coming weeks; to check if Covid-clear in order to receive a first jab of a vaccine; to help contain the pandemic or show responsibility.
The results of the PCR tests will be sent by SMS and can also be consulted after 48 hours later on the personal online site of La Meva Salut. If the test result is positive, the Epidemiological Surveillance Service will contact the person to carry out a study of direct contact tracing and indicate the necessary isolation for the next 10 days.
Sitges is on the podium of towns with the highest Covid incidence risk in Catalonia and with a soaring rate of contagion (RT), which has climbed to 4.5 overall, yet double for the population aged 16 to 29.
