CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Tuesday 15 June for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 3,745,199. This is an overall increase of 3,432 against the figure released on Monday and of which 1,605 have occurred in the past 24 hours.

Monday had seen an overall increase of 8,167 over Friday, of which 746 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered. 

The overall incidence rate has dropped three more points to 101.39 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Monday it was 104.56 and Friday 108.46.

The incidence rate is at its highest in Andalusia (184), La Rioja (177) and the Basque Country (139). It is under 100 in ten regions: Valencia (39), the Balearic Islands (40), Galicia (41), Murcia (46), Extremadura (62), the Canary Islands (80), Asturias (69), Cantabria (65), Castilla La Mancha (87) and Castilla y León (99).

There have now been 48,108 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 3,745,199. The figure for the past 7 days is 20,667

There are currently 3,251 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain, of which 899 are in intensive care. This represents 9.54% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain. 

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Tuesday 15 June is 80,579 – an increase of 82 since Monday.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 1,605 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Tuesday 15 June, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 359 in Madrid (last 24 hour increase was 60)
  • 318 in Catalonia (94)
  • 154 in Castilla y León (47)
  • 141 in Andalusia (96)
  • 133 in the Basque Country (118)
  • 103 in the Canary Islands (34)
  • 77 in Aragón (26)
  • 47 in Asturias (44)
  • 37 in Cantabria (25)
  • 34 in Extremadura (32)
  • 33 in Murcia (20)
  • 32 in Navarra (26)
  • 31 in La Rioja (8)
  • 31 in the Valencia Region (3)
  • 27 in Galicia (19)
  • 26 in Castilla La Mancha (4) 
  • 21 in the Balearic Islands (6)
  • 0 in Ceuta (0)
  • in Melilla (2)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 15 June) show that Spain has received 37,600,188 doses of Covid-19 vaccines and that 33,632,590 jabs have been administered. 21,713,840 people have now received at least one jab, representing 45.8% of the population. 13,007,371 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 27.4% of the population.
