This weekend the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) celebrates the renovation and reopening of its Xcèntric film archive.
The centre’s collection of over 1,000 avant-garde films has been through an extensive process of renewal to an incorporate a new system of digital consultation.
In addition, a space has been created to allow visitors to discover cinematographic tools and experiment with various cinematic formats and media, while screenings, workshops and talks can all now be held in a multi-purpose area.
To mark the occasion, over the weekend of 2 and 3 February, the archive will be open for free guided tours that provide an introduction to its contents, and three one-hour sessions entitled ‘An introduction to experimental cinema’ (Sat noon; Sun noon, 6pm – book ahead at xcentric@cccb.org).
Set up in 2001, Xcèntric is the CCCB’s regular film programme and includes numerous screenings and related activities.
