Josep Carreras headlines Christmas concert

World-renowned Catalan tenor Josep Carreras is the star attraction of a Christmas concert taking place on 22 December in Barcelona’s historic Santa Maria del Mar basilica.

Scheduled as part of this year’s Festival Mil·lenni, an eclectic music festival that has been held since 1999, the one-off Christmas performance sees Carreras joined by Mallorcan soprano Susana Cordón, award-winning Barcelona children’s choir Cor Vivaldi, and the Arts Symphony Ensemble chamber orchestra.

The evening features work by a number of outstanding composers, including Mozart, Bizet, Eduard Toldrà, Fermín María Álvarez and Franz Schubert, whose music is performed by a man acknowledged as one of the best singers of his generation.
