Three fights between youths on Passeig de la Ribera in Sitges were the worst incidents on Carnival Tuesday night. Throughout the day, the Emergency Medical Services and the Red Cross also attended to 34 people, 18 of whom required hospitalisation.
The three fights took place when the Rua de l’Extermini procession was over. The first was at 2.30am (Wednesday morning) and involved around 10 people. The fight lasted a few minutes and ended when the Mossos d’Esquadra arrived. A BRIMO (anti-riot) unit from that force, as well as local police officers, were deployed.
The second was at 5am, when the music bars in the Carrer Primer de Maig closed, and ended with two wounded, one with a broken nose and the other with several cuts. The two were treated by ambulance staff, but refused to be taken to Sant Camil Hospital. Shortly afterwards, in the same area, another fight broke out, which also left a young man slightly injured, but who did not want medical attention. In both cases, the Mossos d’Esquadra and the local police also went to break up the clashes.
Police were also called out for a possible assault on Carrer Bassa Rodona shortly before 2pm on Tuesday. They also received notice of cell phone thefts, allegedly by a couple, at 11.15pm. On Sunday night, the local police had intervened in a robbery carried out by a woman with a baby, who was found to be in possession of 10 mobile phones.
