Sitges beach services start on 23 March and will continue for seven months

The start of the Sitges beach season will take place this year on Saturday 23 March, coinciding with the beginning of Holy Week, and will last until Sunday 13 October. Almost seven months during which Sitgetans, visitors and tourists will be able to enjoy the services offered by the town’s beaches, including the beach bars, sunbeds and lifeguard services.

The services on the beaches such as restaurant activities, deckchairs, awnings and water sports, among others, will be progressively rolled out until the month of June, when it is expected that they will be 100% available.

All services are included in the local council’s ‘Plan of Use and Exploitation of Beach Services’, authorised by the Coastal Service of the Catalan government. This document includes the arrangement and distribution of seasonal equipment, uses and services on the beaches, with the aim of making rational use of the space available, conserving and maintaining natural resources, and providing services to promote quality tourism. The installation of the first beach bars has begun in order to have the structures ready for Easter.

The lifeguard service will also be in operation for Easter. From 23 March to 1 April, the hours will be from 12 noon to 6pm at the beaches of La Ribera, La Fragata, Sant Sebastià, Garraf and Les Botigues. During the month of May, the service will be offered at the beaches of La Ribera, La Fragata and Bassa Rodona and from 7 June it will be available at all beaches. During the high season, the rescue service will be staffed by 2 coordinators and 29 lifeguards and will operate from 10am to 7pm. In the 2023 season, the service closed with a total of 57,635 preventive actions on the beaches of Sitges.

To keep the beaches clean, recycling points are also installed, to prevent waste from ending up in the sea. Sitges Council has also extended the contract for the coastal cleaning service, which collects floating solid waste from the sea along the Sitges coast. The boat in charge of the service is equipped with low-consumption ecological engines and can be seen on the coast from mid-June to mid-September, when it will cover 37.4 kilometres of the coast six days a week. Last summer, 734 kg of waste was collected with the service.

The beaches of Sant Sebastià and La Fragata will continue to be smoke-free beaches this year, although smoking is allowed on the terraces of the beach bars.

In relation to the showers and foot taps, the measures of last season are maintained, although this year they will not even be installed as a result of the emergency situation due to drought. Faced with this situation, the council is studying the implementation of alternative measures to provide a minimum service to beach users.
