The Sant Joan Hospital makes changes in its management of the residence

Since the beginning of this year, the Sant Joan Hospital in Sitges has carried out a series of changes to the management of the residence, with the aim of improving care for patients, especially those with a higher degree of dependency

Jordi Sans, the administrator, said: ‘The current situation is that our residents have a very high degree of dependency. This happens with us and many other residences, which have to be updated to address the issue. We requested an external study to be able to apply some improvements on how to improve the treatment of residents, and the conclusions we drew were that we needed our professionals to have a much more personal treatment, to try to ensure that the same care workers are always with the same residents.’

Sans said that this measure has also made it possible to improve communication with residents and families. Changes have also been made to timetables and to holiday leave.

This series of measures, however, led to an agreement to substantially modify working conditions, negotiated between the management and the employment committee. It was not approved by 20 employees, however, who chose to exercise their right to leave voluntarily with compensation.

Sans said: ‘It was negotiated, we submitted it to the assembly and we voted in favour. Because it was a substantial modification of the working conditions, they had the right to leave, and a few did. Now others have joined and everything is already working.’
