Sitges Hospitality Guild seeks actions to ‘invigorate’ the town’s nightlife

The Sitges Hospitality Guild (Gremi d’Hostaleria) closed 2023 by assessing the evolution of the sector during the year and analysing some of the actions that should continue in order to consolidate economic activity in Sitges during 2024.

During a meeting of the Guild’s Governing Board held on 20 December, the sector highlighted the good situation experienced by the town’s hospitality industry, with high levels of hotel occupation almost all year round, exceeding 65% as an annual average, and also with good average prices.

However, there is concern about restaurants, nightlife and commerce. In the case of bars and restaurants, the evaluation of the year is irregular, with establishments that have met expectations, and others that have worked less than expected. In addition, the average prices have fallen, making profitability difficult.

With regard to nightlife and local commerce, the Guild has called for actions to ‘invigorate’ the town and stop the decline in local activity.

Looking ahead to this new year, the Guild insists that tourism promotion must continue to be the pillar on which to consolidate the economic activity of Sitges. The first important events of the year will be the arrival of the Carnival, the Patchwork Festival and Holy Week, in addition to the conventions and congresses planned in the town’s hotels.

During the meeting, the problem of the lack of water was also discussed, both in Sitges and throughout Catalonia. The Guild said that it will continue with ‘didactic and pedagogical tasks’ for the responsible use of water by visitors, especially in the hospitality industry.
