Third ‘Vila del Llibre’ literary festival takes place in and around Mercat Vell

The third edition of the Sitges, Vila del Llibre literary festival is being held over this weekend, from 3-5 November, in and around the Mercat Vell.

The first two editions of the festival had been held during April on the Passeig Marítim near the Terramar, and as a prelude to Sant Jordi’s Day (23 April). However, this year it has moved to the old town and an autumn date, in order to also boost activity in the town during the low tourist season.

The festival’s stands of independent publishers, the backbone of the event, will be installed within the Mercat Vell, where some of the main activities also take place.

There are also events and activities of the festival taking place at the Pere Stämpfli Cultural Space, the Palau del Rei Moro and in the Plaça de l’Ajuntament. The programme has about 20 activities for all audiences such as conferences, debates, musical shows and family activities, including workshops and storytelling, among others.

The ‘Sitges, Vila del Llibre’ festival has also changed its model and after two years dedicated to the evolution of the municipality during the 20th century, this year begins a new cycle dedicated to dialogue between Catalan culture and a foreign culture. This year the Portuguese language inaugurates the series, with tables dedicated to its great writers and the relationship that Catalonia maintains with Portugal.
