The Sitges XXI Children’s Council is established

The plenary hall of the Sitges Town Council was the setting chosen for the recent act of constitution of the XXI Children’s Council of Sitges, a public participation body whose aim is to promote democratic values and which serves as a link between the local schools and the town council.

During the act, the new members of the council were all presented, all fifth graders, chosen in school elections on 11 October, and who are added to the sixth graders who have been part of the Children’s Council since last year. All of them represent the students of the Esteve Barrachina, Miquel Utrillo, Maria Ossó and Agnès de Sitges schools, the chartered Escola Pia and the private (BSB) The British School of Barcelona.

Following this constitution session, the Children’s Council will meet once a month to develop a project that will be presented to the authorities and political representatives at the end of the school year. So far proposals have been presented such as the installation of public fountains, the creation of an inclusive playground, the Anti-Bullying project, the design of a playground for girls and boys over 8 years old, the creation of bike lanes, ‘Artistic Time’ to promote urban art through different wall paintings, among many others.

One of the novelties of this year is that one of the points of the body’s regulations has been modified and now the possibility of being a councillor is open to all boys and girls schooled in Sitges, whether or not they are registered in the town.
