Sitges ‘Children’s Clothes Exchange Market’, as part of EU waste prevention week

Sitges is organising a Children’s Clothes Exchange Market as part of the European Waste Prevention Week.

The Mercat Drapaire event will take place on Sunday 19 November at the Espai Jove (Carrer de Josep Soler Tasis, 4), with clothes in good condition for all children aged 0 to 12.

As part of the European Waste Prevention Week, the aim is to reuse material that is in good condition, thereby avoiding the waste of resources and the creation of waste that is difficult to recycle. In Europe, it is estimated that each person uses 26kg of clothes a year and throws away 11kg, and the average use of each piece is 7-8 times.

People interested in participating must leave the clothes (in good condition) that they want to exchange at the Espai Jove, up until Monday 13 November. The clothes must go in a bag that must be identified with the child’s name, school, parents’ contact phone number and number of items (up to a maximum of 20).

Each piece of clothing will entitle you to a ‘cloth’ coin, which will be the exchange currency that will be used on 19 November. These ‘cloths’ can be picked up at Espai Jove on Thursday 16 November or Friday 17 November, from 4pm to 8pm. You can also pick up the exchange currency on the day of the event from 10am to 10.30am. Each ‘cloth’ will give the right to take an exchange item.

The market on Sunday 19 November will start at 10.30am and end at 12 noon. After this time, people who have not brought any items to exchange will also be able to access the market. Finally, the clothes still left in the Espai Jove at the end of the day will be sent to Ukraine.
