South R2 railway track undergoes improvement work until next summer

Last Monday, the works to improve the railway track of the Rodalies R2 line between Vilanova and Castelldefels began, with the aim of improving the efficiency, comfort and safety of rail travel on one of the tracks that accumulates the highest density of traffic on the Rodalies network.

This work, which affects a stretch of 23 kilometres, may bring some inconvenience to users of the trains on this line and Adif has already warned that travel times could increase for safety reasons.

With the aim of shortening the construction period as much as possible, an extension of the night maintenance period has been established, which will be from 10.30pm to 4.30am on weekdays. The investment for the improvement of this section is 23.4 million euros, which will be used to renew 87,000 metres of track and 60,000 sleepers on the section. This work must translate into a reduction in the probability of incidents on these roads.

Last Monday there was an incident due to a lack of tension on the overheard power cables at Garraf station, that caused delays of up to 40 minutes. ALSO READ: A new incident on Rodalies train line highlights passenger inconvenience.
