Sitges, a reference point in perinatal, gestational & neonatal mourning

The Áltima funeral service group, in its vocation to shed light on one of the most socially silenced areas of bereavement, has put into operation two new spaces dedicated to perinatal mourning in Garraf cemeteries this year, one of which has opened in Les Pruelles Cemetery in Sitges, making the region a reference in Catalonia in this sector.

In addition to the Les Pruelles space, there is a similar space in the Vilanova i la Geltrú cemetery, also open this 2023, as well as one that was already in operation in the Sant Pere de Ribes cemetery in 2022.

The aim of these spaces is to give a voice to all those families who have suffered perinatal, gestational and neonatal bereavement and to offer a space of remembrance and tribute to their sons and daughters. Currently, Àltima, sector leader in Catalonia, has 11 spaces for perinatal bereavement, three of which are in the Garraf region.

In the Les Pruelles cemetery, it is called the Garden of Longing and its purpose is to be a physical point of reference in the recognition of this type of death, as well as to respond to the grief suffered by the families who have experienced these situations.

The space is located near the main entrance of the cemetery, surrounded by vegetation, with a path around which families who wish can place small coloured stars made by hand. There is also the option of incorporating the ashes of your loved one and engraving their name.
