Creative Connexions Ireland: Sitges ’23 returns with a stunning line-up of artists

Creative Connexions Ireland: Sitges ’23 – the very popular Irish Arts Festival in Catalonia, returns with a stunning line-up of artists, performances and events in October, and in celebration of its 10 Year Anniversary.

From Thursday 26 October until Sunday 29 October, the Creative Connexions Ireland: Sitges ‘23 festival will see more than 60 worldclass musicians from Ireland travel to Sitges for a four-day festival of music, dance, theatre and youth arts. The theme of this year’s festival is Celebrating 10 years in Sitges. All acts have one thing in common – performers have previously featured in festivals between 2013 – 2023.

This year’s line-up includes – and back by popular demand after her 2022 sell-out concert – blues singer Mary Coughlan presenting The Billie Holiday Story; singer, piano player, composer, performer Jack O’Rourke; BBC Lifetime achievement award winner 2019, for her contribution to folk music, singer Cathy Jordan; fiddlers Mossie Martin, Claire Sherry, Paul Kelly and Oleg Ponomarev; Dublin’s own Ian Drew in The Legends of Irish Folk, and of course from the heart of the Sitges music scene, Joan Pinos.

This year’s festival will see a new Irish composition by Tim Doyle, the high-energy dance event Call to the Dance in Els Jardins del Retiro, the return of COR NuaA Celtic & World Music Choral Event and bringing the 10-year celebrations to a close, on their third Creative Connexions appearance in Sitges, the dynamic folk orchestra NoCrows – a unique group with diverse musical roots, from Irish traditional to Latin rumba, classical, jazz, rock and Balkan music.

The festival is delighted to have the Societat Recreativa El Retiro as a new partner, with events taking place in their indoor and outdoor spaces. A wonderful venue to celebrate our presence in Sitges since 2013. Throughout the weekend many of the festival musicians will showcase their talent in Els Jardins del Retiro, one of Sitges’ loveliest gardens, in a series of outdoor day-time concerts. A number of more intimate events will also take place in Queenz cabaret lounge.

And there’s more … As well as ticketed events the festival is delighted to present more than 30 Fringe events, including a Festival Parade, Sitges Sessions, a dynamic youth programme with 150 young Irish performers making the trip to Sitges this year, pop-up events at key Sitges locations and the ever-popular Montroig Stage.

With over 200 performers, young and not so young, providing more than 60 events and all taking place over four days, there is something to suit everybody!

Creative Connexions Ireland: Sitges ’23 is supported by Culture Ireland, the Ajuntament de Sitges, the Sitges Tourist Board and The Embassy of Ireland in Madrid. At Sitges in English, we’re also delighted to support the festivalas a media partner.
