The Catalan government, the Generalitat, has placed the whole of the Garraf massif on a ‘high level’ alert from the risk of fire, given the high temperatures and the on-going drought situation, which, despite recent rain, remains in a state of emergency. Access to the massif is restricted.
The government’s ‘Alfa Plan’ has placed the Garraf, like much of Catalonia, at level 2, which implies ‘high or very high risk of fire’. This means that the use of pyrotechnics and barbecues remains prohibited, in addition to regulating agricultural tasks.
The Sitges Town Council has also restricted access to the Garraf. Only authorised vehicles can access it, both from Camí de la Fita (in the Mas Alba area) and from Rat Penat. The council has installed an access control fence, which can only be passed by Garraf residents or people with access authorisation.
