Rodalies train ordeal will last a minimum of ‘three more weeks’

‘Three more weeks’ is the time that the Spanish Ministry of Transport has acknowledged that Adif will need to repair the facilities affected in Gavà, which are causing major delays to the R2 Sud line that connects Sant Vicenç de Calders with Barcelona.

A breakdown at the Adif facilities in Gavà last week provoked exasperation and indignation throughout the week for the users of the rail network in Sitges and surrounding area, who were left facing cancellations and severe delays.

A flash fire at a Gavà signalling station, possibly caused by recent thunderstorms – although this has been denied by meteorological experts – was reportedly to blame for compromising the control and safety of the trains, and has affected the signalling system for the track between El Prat del Llobregat and Castelldefels.

Since the outbreak of the incident, trains in both directions have been limited, causing not only significant delays, but also larger than usual crowds on the platforms.
