The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Friday 18 March for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 11,324,637. This is an increase of 100,663 against last Friday’s figure. The previous week’s increase had been 123,546.

The incidence rate is now 445 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days – an increase of 15 since last Friday’s figure of 430. The previous week had seen a decrease of 33. The highest recorded incidence rate in Spain throughout the entire pandemic was 3,418 on Friday 21 January. See below for the current incidence rate for each region.

The age group with the highest incidence rate is those aged 12-19, at 650. The incidence rates per age group are as follows:

  • Aged 11 and under – 317 (figure last Friday: 320)
  • 12-19 years – 650 (700)
  • 20-29 years – 503 (541)
  • 30-39 years – 501 (478)
  • 40-49 years – 485 (453)
  • 50-59 years – 402 (367)
  • 60-69 years – 347 (305)
  • 70-79 years – 382 (331)
  • Aged 80 and over – 451 (424)

There are currently 4,580 people hospitalised for Covid-19 (last Friday 4,777), representing a 3.69% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (3.84%). 597 are in intensive care (last Friday 689), representing 6.55% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across the country (7.55%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Friday 18 March is now 101,703 – an increase of 568 since last Friday’s figure of 101,135.The previous week’s increase had been 722.

  • 930 in Extremadura (last Friday: 750)
  • 899 in Galicia (802)
  • 874 in the Canary Islands (854)
  • 581 in La Rioja (523)

  • 502 in Castilla y León (452)
  • 501 in Asturias (415)
  • 491 in the Balearic Islands (416)
  • 483 in Murcia (536)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (with data collated up to Wednesday 16 March) show that Spain has administered 93,571,317 jabs of the Covid vaccine. 38,945,187 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 82.2% of the total population (92.3% of the population aged over 12). A further 24,312,467 ‘booster’ jabs have also been administered.
