Covid figures continue to drop in Sitges, but more slowly

Coronavirus contagion rates continue to fall in Sitges, but they are now falling very slowly, with the expectation that they will probably rise again in the coming days due to the Carnival celebrations.

This week the number of new positive cases in Sitges has dropped below 100 for the first time in three months. Since the end of November, new cases had always been over 100 a week, and even approached 1,000 in mid-January. In the last seven days there have been 91. In Sant Pere de Ribes, there have been 101.

The increase in cases in Sitges is 1.13% in the last seven days, whilst in Sant Pere de Ribes it is 1.09%. These are slightly lower figures than last week. In mid-January, the increase was 18.10% in Sitges and 20.25% in Sant Pere de Ribes.

However, all indications are that the increase in cases will be greater in the coming days, as dozens of positive cases had begun to be confirmed in Sitges on Thursday, which have not yet been included in the Health Department’s figures. These are the consequences of the Carnival celebrations.

The rebound risk (iEPG)* in Sitges on Thursday was slightly higher than yesterday: 479 compared to 453. This is the first time since the end of January that it has not dropped. In Sant Pere de Ribes it was 543. The The rate of contagion (RT) is 0.84 in Sitges, 0.94 in Sant Pere de Ribes and 0.85 in Catalonia as a whole. The rate of positive test results is still high: 12.65% in Sitges, 11.85% in Sant Pere de Ribes and 11.51% being the Catalan average.

*The potential rebound risk (iEPG) measures possible new cases diagnosed over the next 14 days, to evaluate the growth or slowdown in the contagion. It is calculated by multiplying the accumulated incidence rate (IA) and the rate of contagion (RT).
