Father arrested after fatal stabbing of toddler’s speech therapist in Valencia

A 24-year-old father has been arrested in Spain after allegedly killing his two-year-old son’s speech therapist at a clinic in Valencia, believing the health professional had been abusing the child.

The suspect, identified locally only as David G.S., reportedly handed himself in to police shortly after the attack, arriving at a National Police station in the Valencia suburb of Burjassot with blood still on his hands and confessing that he had killed another man.

According to local reports, the father told officers he had attacked the therapist after briefly leaving his son during an appointment to smoke a cigarette outside the clinic. When he returned, he allegedly found the youngster partially undressed, with his trousers lowered and his nappy removed.

The 32-year-old speech therapist is understood to have been treating the child at a specialist centre in Valencia when the confrontation occurred on Monday afternoon.

Investigators believe the suspect initially demanded to see security camera footage from inside the clinic. Witnesses who overheard the argument told police the father shouted: ‘Either you show me the cameras or I’ll kill you.’

The speech therapist reportedly refused to comply, after which the suspect is said to have assaulted him before allegedly producing a knife and inflicting a fatal wound.

The victim suffered a severe slash injury to the neck and died at the clinic. Emergency services were unable to save him.

After the attack, the suspect is understood to have driven back to his home on the outskirts of Valencia before heading to the police station to surrender. He allegedly told officers he had killed his son’s ‘abuser’.

Police then went to the clinic, where they found the victim lying in a pool of blood. The area was sealed off while forensic specialists carried out an examination of the scene.

A post-mortem examination was scheduled to take place following the killing. Investigators expect it to confirm that the speech therapist died from a neck wound which caused catastrophic blood loss and hypovolemic shock.

The victim, described in local reports as a university-educated health professional, was 32 years old.

The suspect remained in police custody pending his appearance before an investigating judge. Under Spanish legal procedure, the hearing is expected to take place behind closed doors, with prosecutors likely to seek his remand in custody while the investigation continues.

Police have not publicly disclosed any evidence to support the father’s belief that his son had been abused, and inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the killing remain ongoing.
