The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Tuesday 14 December for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 5,366,128. This is an overall increase of 26,136 against the figure released on Monday, of which 14,339 have been registered in the past 24 hours.
Monday had seen an overall increase of 49,802 over Friday, of which 6,879 were registered in 24 hours.
The overall incidence rate across Spain has risen another 31 points to 412.26 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Monday it was 381.26 and Friday 323.07. The region with the lowest incidence rate is Castilla-La Mancha at 195. It is at its highest in Navarra at 1,267. See below for the incidence rate for each region.
The age group with the highest incidence rate is those aged under 11, at 648.The incidence rates per age group are as follows:
- Aged 11 and under – 648.64 (previously 617.00)
- 12-19 years – 246.33 (220.15)
- 20-29 years – 385.73 (335.07)
- 30-39 years – 454.77 (414.02)
- 40-49 years – 513.98 (473.95)
- 50-59 years – 372.37 (341.43)
- 60-69 years – 408.81 (385.31)
- 70-79 years – 203.58 (197.40)
- Aged 80 and over – 151.73 (144.32)
There have now been 195,620 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 5,366,128. The figure for the past 7 days is 111,811.
There are currently 6,373 people hospitalised for Covid-19 in Spain (previously 6,347), representing a 5.11% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (5.11%). 1,215 are in intensive care (1,166), representing 13.10% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across Spain (12.60%).
The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Tuesday 14 Dec is now 88,542 – an increase of 58 since Monday.
Increase in infections per region & current incidence rate
Of the 14,339 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours (and current incidence rate) on Tuesday 14 Dec, the numbers per region are as follows:
- 3,279 in Catalonia (current incidence rate: 481)
- 2,820 in Madrid (273)
- 1,895 in the Basque Country (936)
- 1,418 in Castilla y León (562)
- 698 in Navarra (1,267)
- 671 in Aragón (744)
- 612 in the Canary Islands (286)
- 539 in Galicia (461)
- 510 in Asturias (543)
- 459 in Murcia (421)
- 264 in Extremadura (228)
- 251 in La Rioja (473)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain
Latest figures (with data collated up to Monday 13 December) show that Spain has administered 81,104,962 jabs of the Covid vaccine. 37,742,102 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 79.5% of the total population. A further 9,210,940 ‘booster’ jabs have also been administered.
