CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Monday 13 December for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 5,339,992. This is an overall increase of 49,802 against the figure released on Friday, of which 6,879 have been registered in the past 24 hours.
Friday had seen an overall increase of 17,012 over Thursday, of which 10,418 were registered in 24 hours.
The overall incidence rate across Spain has risen another 58 points to 381.26 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days – still above the new ‘high risk’ level. On Friday it was 323.07 and Thursday 305.57. The region with the lowest incidence rate is Andalusia at 171. It is at its highest in Navarra at 1,197. See below for the incidence rate for each region.
The age group with the highest incidence rate is those aged under 11, at 617.The incidence rates per age group are as follows:
- Aged 11 and under – 617.00 (previously 547.22)
- 12-19 years – 220.15 (179.65)
- 20-29 years – 335.07 (260.52)
- 30-39 years – 414.02 (340.97)
- 40-49 years – 473.95 (395.53)
- 50-59 years – 341.43 (291.04)
- 60-69 years – 385.31 (333.95)
- 70-79 years – 197.40 (192.90)
- Aged 80 and over – 144.32 (137.93)
There have now been 180,911 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 5,339,992. The figure for the past 7 days is 93,774.
There are currently 6,347 people hospitalised for Covid-19 in Spain (previously 5,569), representing a 5.11% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (4.48%). 1,166 are in intensive care (1,056), representing 12.60% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across Spain (11.41%).
The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Monday 13 Dec is now 88,484 – an increase of 103 since Friday.
Increase in infections per region & current incidence rate
Of the 6,879 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours (and current incidence rate) on Monday 13 Dec, the numbers per region are as follows:
- 1,345 in the Basque Country (current incidence rate: 905)
- 807 in Castilla y León (520)
- 690 in Aragón (728)
- 604 in Galicia (444)
- 478 in Madrid (240)
- 454 in Navarra (1,197)
- 453 in the Canary Islands (267)
- 437 in Asturias (515)
- 395 in Catalonia (428)
- 366 in Murcia (387)
- 206 in Extremadura (217)
- 147 in Andalusia (171)
- 113 in La Rioja (421)
- 111 in Cantabria (360)
- 108 in the Balearic Islands (445)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain
Latest figures (with data collated up to Thursday 9 December) show that Spain has administered 77,827,910 jabs of the Covid vaccine. 37,702,839 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 79.5% of the total population. A further 6,027,380 ‘booster’ jabs have also been administered.
